PIGS
Penelope & Hubert
WALLACE & Jasper
Wallace and Jasper are bonded brothers and the first big pigs to live at our sanctuary. Their story has a sad beginning but now that they’re here, we are honored to be able to provide them with a safe, loving home. They will never again have to face cruelty and will only know love, respect, and kindness.
In July, 2016 the ASPCA assisted in the largest-ever farm animal cruelty case in the northeast, where more than 1,000 farm animals of various species were living in deplorable conditions on a 70-acre property in Westport, Massachusetts. They found dead, injured, and neglected animals, some with no access to food or water.
The ASPCA provided care for these animals and later transported them to a temporary location to receive ongoing care until disposition was determined by the court. Once the Court awarded ownership of the animals to the ASPCA, the search for homes began. We were contacted by ASPCA and asked if we could provide a home for two of the pigs. An ASPCA representative visited our sanctuary and we were approved for placement and a grant to help prepare for the arrival of the pigs. After preparation and a very long trip here, we were absolutely thrilled to welcome Wallace and Jasper.
Annabelle & Wemberly
Wemberly and Annabelle arrived one week apart from each other. Born on a factory farm where at just 21 days old they are taken from their mothers and moved to the growing barns. Wemberly had just been taken from her mother and was found forgotten, freezing, and scared, left in the transport trailer. A kind worker took pity on her and rescued her. When Wemberly arrived she was 16 pounds and very sick. She was in the hospital with pneumonia when we got the call one week later about Annabelle who was found, also at 21 days old, just taken from her mother, found forgotten by the same worker, in the same pen of the same trailer. We knew that they would do better together so we brought tiny Annabelle home too so they would be able to live out the rest of their lives together in a peaceful and loving environment. Annabelle was only seven pounds and suffered from a joint infection due to their difficult beginnings. They were best friends and grew up like sisters. We sadly lost Annabelle at the beginning of 2024. Wemberly is six years old now.
Sam
Daisy & Rosie
Daisy and Rosie are sisters and came to us after their guardian passed away. We knew that it would be difficult to find a home for older girls and that they needed to stay together. They are two peas in a pod! We adoringly call them “the grumpy old ladies” because they like to stay in bed and grumble every time they have to get up. In actuality they aren’t very grumpy at all. They are very shy, sweet and gentle, especially when they take treats! They love to be loved.
The Whos!: Martha May & cindy Lou
The Who's ~ Martha May and Cindy Lou came to us as piglets, after being rescued from a terribly undhealthy situation. They are curly haired cuties and have been enjoying their new lives at SoL. They are super energetic and are always full of mud! They are playful and boisterous but settle down and flop right over for a belly rub opportunity!
